Summative Assessment

Didactic Phase

Prior to the completion of the Summer II semester, a didactic comprehensive examination and didactic comprehensive OSCE covering topics presented during the Didactic Phase will be administered. The purpose of these examinations is to provide the Program with a measure of each student’s base of medical knowledge and preparedness for the Clinical Phase. Students who earn a grade of less than 70% (C) on one or both examinations will be required to remediate area(s) of deficit, retest, and will be referred to the Student Progress Committee (SPC) for recommendations on progression in the Program.

Clinical Phase

During the final four months of the program, students must complete a Summative Evaluation to include a summative multiple-choice exam (PAEA End of Curriculum Exam), a summative OSCE, clinical skills stations, the PAEA PACKRAT II exam, and a PANCE prep course. This summative evaluation is part of the Capstone course and completion of all requirements by achieving a published minimum passing score on each component is required to meet programmatic competencies and learning outcomes. Students must meet all program competencies and learning outcomes to be eligible to graduate. Should a student not achieve the published minimum passing score on all components, they will be offered an opportunity to remediate and retest and will be referred to the program's Student Progress Committee (SPC). Additional information about the Summative Evaluation can be found in the Capstone syllabus, the LMU-Harrogate PA Program Student Handbook, and in the LMU-Harrogate PA Program Clinical Manual.
